If You're Too Cool, You Don't Deserve Him
Last night we saw this dreamy, mcdreamy, sexy, mcsexy at The Depot. At the FREAKING Depot. That's a pretty small place to see such a big little man. I don't mean to be dramatic, but I honestly haven't been this excited about something for a REALLY REALLY long time. After Fran was done opening, I was just PURE smiles and butterflies until HE came out... FREAK! All I can say is it was a pretty amazing show... even Peter admitted he liked it, and he's NOT an easy crowd.

Some of people were too lazy to make it into this pic by not pushing their way through the crowd (ahem... Tia, John, Krista.... def not the biggest fans!). That's all I have to say. Good times were had.

On Melancholy Hill
I really haven't missed NYC since we've been back. Strangely, I was sad to leave, but have quickly gotten wrapped up in life around here. There have been exactly three moments where it hit me that only a short time ago I lived in there, and I got nostalgic for exactly two seconds. The first moment was looking at shoes in Nordstrom with my mom... "Start Spreading the News" came on, and I felt like everything froze, and I realized that I used to LIVE there, actually live there, like I had forgotten. Later that week when we went to see "Morning Glory," and again..... time kind of stopped, and I felt like I was dreaming about something from a REALLY long time ago, or maybe only a month ago... WE USED TO LIVE THERE! Weird. Then I came across this little beauty that an Chateau just made... I actually got a teeny, tiny bit sad about being gone for the first time. Check it out, I think you'll like it. It might even make you sad that I now live in Utah and not NYC.

Squished
I had two of the worst nights of sleep this weekend. After spending some quality time in the hot pots at Lava we crammed all fifteen of us into the Alpaca Inn and I got stuck between Nici and Davis in a little bed. It was a LONG night. The next night I had to share with Rocco, Lyla, and Davis. I finally got up and went to the couch and these two followed. No sleep at all. Hopefully I'll be able to wake up to get two other kids to school on time tomorrow. I feel like I'm going to be recovering all week. This lady is used to some beauty rest.

Business in the Front, Party in the Back
I like to change the color of my hair. I've been dying it since I was 12, literally, 12, and I haven't had it my natural color since then. It's been bright red, dark brown, white, kind of red, kind of brown, kind of blonde, dark brown on the bottom and blonde on the top, chunky gross highlights, and just about every other combo you can think of. About a year ago I started doing a double process. I loved it, but the roots kind of stressed me out. Everybody kept saying, "I never knew your hair was BLACK." I'm not sure why this bothered me since I'm fully aware I'm not fooling anyone with my fake-blonde-ness, but just in case you were wondering, my hair is NOT black. I prefer calling it mousey, or the perfect nothing color of light brown and dark blonde blahness. Anyway, right before I left NYC I decided I didn't want to deal with the roots anymore so I changed the bottom so it wasn't quite as blonde and died the roots darker. I know, I know, it sounds exactly what I WASN"T going for... darker roots? But it's what I did, and I guess it's called OMBRE, if you want to be fancy about it. Now I can grow it out if I want, and have my hair a million different colors or go back blonde again without too much hassle. So, I was just looking at some pics from a recent hike, and I realized I have some business in the front and a party in the back, that is, if you believe blondes have more fun. Which, let's be honest, they kind of do.
Oh, the things you think about when you don't have a job.

Bad Mom
Since I am currently under-employed, I've been spending quite a bit of time hanging out with and tending my nieces and nephews. Last week I spent a few days staying with my brother's kids while he and his wife went on a little trip. The first night I was there my dad came over after the kids were in bed so I could go to the election party downtown. Since I didn't get back that night until about 2am, I was a little tired the next morning. I was so tired that I woke up to the sound of my 8 year old niece closing the front door as she was LEAVING for school. I got up and went downstairs to find her two little brothers eating oatmeal for breakfast. OOPS! I'm not sure if it's scarier that she's that on top of things or that I'm that lazy. When she got home from school she said, "Missy, it's okay if you want to sleep-in tomorrow because I had everything under control this morning." At that point I figured I might as well just leave as it was pretty clear she had things under control without me.
Later that day we visited Lyla and she was OBSESSED with licking Miles' face. If he turned away from her she would go crazy barking and whining at him. So he sat there for probably 10 minutes letting her lick his face. My mom and I just sat there cracking up. When we left he said, "Missy, Lyla licked my face like 100 times!" The moral of the story is... you should all hurry and plan your next vacation so I can tend your kids and teach them how to be self-sufficient and how to not be afraid of dogs licking their faces. Believe me, you'll thank me later. I'm pretty sure my kids are going to be making their own food at age two while I sit on the couch with Lyla catching up my reality tv. That just feels right to me.
