A Little Cheesy, But a Goody...

I recorded The Sing Off to watch when I was bored and that happened today... So I finished it off. I kind of loved this and hate to admit that it gave me the chills. I wish I could sing just so I could sing this one... It just looks like so much fun.

The Nutcracker

The day after Christmas we went to The Nutcracker. I LOVE going to the ballet here, and Davis loves "taking a $40 nap," so it works out perfectly.

I have to admit, I've found a good one...

He's willing to dress up as Santa and trek up to the Bronx...
to deliver these goods on Christmas Eve...

You should have seen all of the attention he was getting up there... It was quite a sight...

A New Tradition

My friend, Lindsay, has a tradition of taking a picture of her family every year in front of the Christmas tree. It sounds really simple, but it's really fun to see how her family has changed every year. I liked the tradition so much, I copied it. Here's our Christmas #1...

BTW, in the background you can see the Christmas cards we got this year. It's been my favorite part of the month. It's so fun to see what people come up with.

"Watching the Wheels"

When I was in 7th grade I was in this weird class called Autonomous Learner Model "ALM." The whole point of the class was to conduct a research project. We could choose whoever we wanted to research, it just had to be "a great." I asked my teacher if I could do my research on John Lennon, and she said she didn't think he was "a great." After a week or so went by, I asked her again and begged and begged her until she eventually let me research John.
I had a fun time learning about John, and at the end of the year we had a "Night of the Greats," and I got to dress up as John wearing my mom's old bell-bottoms.

Last week was the anniversary of his death, and Davis and I happened the be running through the park past Strawberry Fields that night. There were tons of people singing and dancing around, and everyone was really into it. My favorite song we sang was "Watching the Wheels." It was kind of a magical little moment.. all of these randoms coming together to sing and sway...
I love finding little treasures like this in the park.

The singles in NY do a little film festival every year called lingos... Most of the videos are pretty dumb, but there's usually one or two that are really funny. Here's the best from this year....

Twilight Years from Tom on Vimeo.

and here's the best from last year...

you won't regret watching these babies. i promise.

It's Cooooooooold

It's getting really cold, and every second she can Lyla climbs up my jackets to try to stay warm. It cracks me up.

According to some of the comments, texts, and calls Davis and I have been receiving it appears that some people think there might be a baby on the way (thanks for getting the ball rolling, Nici). I'm sorry* to report that Lyla is the only cousin we'll be adding to the fam for quite sometime.

*Actually, I should say I'm happy to report this since we haven't even been married for a year and baby on the way would just be too too much to handle. According to Davis, we're just too young for that business...

The best part of Thanksgiving was getting to meet baby Lincoln and hang out with Emerson. He's heading into my favorite stage of just learning to talk. They're both so cute.

Exciting News!!

I got some exciting news the other day… So Davis surprised me with this…

He's a pretty nice one!

While Davis and I were in Boston, Hilary took Lyla to the Macy's Parade, and Jen took these cute pics of them. I'm showing a massive sense of self-control by only posting three because I've been freaking out about them.

Thanks for tending Hilary and thanks for the pics Jen!

Don't Do Dumb Things

Many of you have asked me why Davis quit doing his blog.... Here's why.... Check it out. It's pretty fun.

Baby Blues

My cute niece was blessed a couple of weeks ago, and I, of course, missed it. I hate to miss all of the happenings. I can't get over how cute she is. She's kind of out of control.

Can't wait to see her in a couple of weeks.

The Gunks

Last Saturday the weather was kind of amazing so we decided to rent a car and go upstate for a little hiking, outlet shopping, and eating... I can't lie.. I kind of love these little adventures. It's the only way I survive city living.
Lyla loves hiking and does a surprisingly good job. She gave me a heart attack when she took off, and we couldn't find her for ten minutes. Let's just say there was some drama and after that she wasn't allowed off her leash anymore.

After our hike Davis found this old inn he ate at a few years ago with his parents. Actually, Greg found it from his old visa bill... That's what I call organization... too bad Davis didn't get any of those skills.
Here's to buying a car.

Last night we stayed up late watching Real vs. Galaxy.... It was quite the intense game and pretty exciting that Real won!! Holla!!
I liked this guy...

And I felt bad for this one when he missed at the end... Even though I'm glad he did, still sad.

Holla, for having champions in SLC!

Must Sees

I can't get a couple of movies out of my head lately (Jacob might be another one I can't get out of my head)....

After seeing Previous I just felt sick to my stomach about it. I don't think I've ever cried this much in a movie... Although It was an interesting movie going experience because Les and I were surrounded by some characters so we'd be crying our eyes out at the movie and at the same time laughing at all of the crazies around us. That's what we get for going to Times Square. This show is definitely emotional but so worth seeing.

The other flick I loved wasn't quite as depressing.. Fabulous Mr. Fox. GO SEE IT. It was perfect. So funny. So cute. So everything. We all loved it. I think I need to read the book now. Somehow I missed this one after catching all of his other goodies.

The only thing better than this guy...

Is this guy??

How can I love Buddy so much??
That's just how it is on FNL... It's blowing me away ...

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

Lyla got a little package in the mail from her cousin Romey, and she looks super cute in it... In case you can't tell, it says, "Dog Run Flirt."
Lyla loves wearing it... Thanks, Romey.

My last year at BYU we discovered this old Nintendo game called Tetris Attack and well, the rest is history. We spent more hours playing that game than doing anything else... It sounds pretty lame, I know, but we had SO much fun playing it. Joe, of course, was the master, and it was our goal to beat him. There's a pic of some of us on facebook after church one Sunday from back then, and the caption says, "Tetrix Attack, A Quick Sacrament Meeting, Tetris Attack."
I guess some things never change. ...
Tetris, Sleep, Tetris, A Quick Knicks Game, Tetris...
(of course I was the one to beat this weekend)

BTW, the Jazz won this game after playing really dumb during the 4th and almost blowing it.
Now if only Joe moved back and Nici followed everything would be right in the world.

New Digs

It's been pretty chilly lately, and Lyla HATES going outside in the cold. I don't blame her, she's so tiny, that when it's cold she just starts shivering and when I pick her up her ears and feet are freezing. Since she grew out of her sweater from last winter we had to do a little shopping...
I've kind of been dying over how cute she looks in this thing...

You have to admit that hood it out of control...

In case you were wondering... her legs are so short and her body is so long, it's kind of hard to find clothes that fit her.... But this one has legs that work so she can run around and doesn't trip over it... HOLLA!!

Then we had to go to the vet today, and she was stressing out so much it wore her right out. When we got home she curled up on the computer and fell asleep.

Notice how her eyes go blue from the flash.. I wonder why hers go blue and not red??

Veterans Day

There are few people whose life I look up to more than my Grandpa Huber's. If you've ever heard me talk about him, you know how amazing I think he is. He's a hard worker and applied that to his work life and to his many hobbies. He was a successful business man, but has always made time to do the things he loved. He was an avid gardener, rancher, outdoors man, boater, card player (not gambler), cook, and lover of animals. I was lucky enough to live close to him growing up so I grew to appreciate many of the things he loved. In the summers I spent hours working in the big garden with him, driving with him and my grandma to and from Price and Wyoming, and swimming with him at the Deseret Gym. On Sundays after he cooked a feast we would always get in a good game of cards with some Cherry Coke. When I got older and Peter and I were the only kids around we got to go out to dinner every week with the adults and grandpa always encourged us to order whatever we wanted. When I recently went home, we went out to dinner, and I was late. My said that he insisted on ordering the crab legs for me because he still remembers that it's my favorite. He always remember little things like that about all of his grandchildren, and I know they all feel loved in an individual way because of it.

Without my grandpa, I wouldn't have such fond memories of camping in southern Utah every Easter, or riding horses, and Lyla definitely wouldn't be sitting on my lap right now. My grandpa has a rough exterior, but is the most generous person I have ever known. It seems there is nothing that brings him more joy than sharing what he has with others. I was lucky enough to be the recipient of a pretty big gift from him that I get to wear on my finger so I am constantly reminded of what an amazing love story he had with my grandma.

My grandpa put up with a lot, especially from his daughters, but he also knew how to have fun. I love that about him. I love hearing stories from my mom and aunts about grandpa pulling up with a new car unexpectedly, or deciding to put a swimming pool in, or forcing them to water ski, or driving the RV across the country just for fun, or bringing new animals home... the list goes on and on. It seems that somehow he found a way to have the perfect balance of work and play and service while ensuring that everyone felt loved along the way.

When I think about how much time I've been blessed to spend with him over the years, I feel overwhelmed and grateful for the personal relationship I have with him and all of the fun memories we've had over the years. I feel so lucky to have been blessed to have him as a grandpa.

Yesterday this amazing man was one of 11 veterans honored at the University of Utah for his service in World War 2. I wish I could have been there. I heard it was a great celebration and one he was excited about even at the age of 94. You can read about his service here, and watch a clip from the celebration here. He's the second Veteran they talk about.

Congratulations, Grandpa. I'm so proud of you.

Season 4

Since we can't have Ali, we decided Brigham was the next best thing, and we had a threesies watch FNL night... and oh boy... I just can't get over it... I was a little worried since there were so many changes, but I didn't miss all the oldies that much, and these two and the newbies just make up for them being gone.... It's still the best show.

"Part of the List"

The day before Halloween I asked a little girl what she was going to be for Halloween, and she told me that her family didn't have enough money to get her a costume so she wasn't going to be able to dress up. As I've been looking at everyone's Halloween pictures the past week, and espeically all of the cute kiddie costumes, I haven't been able to get that little girl out of my mind.

Sometimes I get caught up in all of the little things that are going wrong in my life, and it takes a really extreme situation to make me realize how selfish I'm being. The thought of that little girl hit me hard, and ever since our conversation, I've felt really overwhelmed with gratitude.

The past few days I've been thinking about doing some thankful posts, but decided not to for fear of being too cheesy... But really, am I one to care if I look silly or cheesy on this thing? NO!! And November is the perfect month for that, right? Then to top it all off Nat mentioned that November is National Blogging Bla Bla Month, so I decided this would be the perfect month to try to blog everyday about little things that I'm thankful for... Since today is the 5th I'm going to do 25 things from the past week to catch up....

1. sunday naps
2. testimony meeting (it's always my favorite)
3. enough time to walk to TWO dog runs
4. patsy's
5. motivating runners

6. puppy play group
7. crock pot meals
8. davis doing the dishes
9. halloween candy
10. holding hands

11. a random holiday
12. no school in NYC so I can do my visits early
13. the crosstown bus
14. remembering watching the inauguration last year with coworkers
15. finishing a book

16. new magazines in the mail
17. a long bath
18. winning at tetris
19. getting off early
20. reading 100 pages of a new book

21. somebody to get me out of bed

"Done and Done"

It only took SEVEN months...

These thank yous are no longer bogging me down... They're done!!
