"Reading Rainbow"

MORMONS, SEX, and VAMPIRES -- pretty good for a first choice, eh?
Thanks to KC we now have a Cool Kids Book Club... I'm so happy about it because I always wanted to be a cool kid, and she's finally given me the chance to live out my dream. Last night was our first session.
For our first book we were very original and chose a little book I'm sure you haven't heard of (because every Mormon girl hasn't read it)-- Twilight. Last we night headed down to a Brazilian BBQ place on the Lower East Side, ate unlimited food, and talked about our love of Edward. Good times, eh?

Here's my plate at the end of night.. YUMMY!

"Love Me Like the World is Ending"

I have a problem..
Ever since I saw that stupid Bourne movie I can't decide who I love the most...

Mr. Bourne,

or Batman.

My problems have increased this week as I've been reading Twilight. Edward may be the new love of my life. (This is the actor Ms. Meyer thinks would do Edward justice in the upcoming movie.)

I was stressing out about this, trying to figure out my true feelings, and then I watched The Hills. It hit me that Justin Bobby is the ultimate catch, and he may just be the celebrity love of my life. Audrina is one luckly girl.

One of my favorite little boys, Ben Lee, has a new album coming out in September! Today I was looking around and saw that the EP is out right now! So of course I got the three little songs, and I can't stop listening to them, especially the song "Ripe." I admit, its a little cheesy, but for some reason Ben can just pull off cheesy so well. I'm loving this song, and I'm loving Ben.

in vegASS
Reasons I love Ben...

1. I'm not sure I've been to another show where the musician has been so happy to be there.
2. Thinking of him bobbing his head and smiling makes me happy.
3. "Begin" has more memories for me than are allowed for one song.
4. He dated Claire Danes... I LOVE HER.. remember how I wanted to be Angela and kiss Jordan?...
The list goes on and on.. but you get the point-- I just love this little guy.

Speaking of Ben dating Claire... While I was listening to"Ripe" today I called another one of my favorite little guys, Davis, because I like to annoy him at work. ...

I started telling him about my love of Ben, and he asked if it was because he dated Claire.. of course that's one of the reasons I love him. Davis doesn't like Claire, so I told him that in the current issue of US Weekly she looked really hot. He IMMEDIATELY responded, "Oh, the picture of her in her workout clothes." "Uh.. yep, that's the one." Does anyone else see anything wrong with this?

and just for fun here's a cover of "float on" that i enjoy

"Silver Lining"

Yes, it's true. Nici has finallly finished her tour of duty in Africa, and she's stopping in NY for 18 short hours on her way back to Zion. In honor of her coming today I figured I'd blog about our little adventure in Tanzania right before I left.

I don't really know where to begin with this trip. Maybe it would be best to start with our 22 HOUR bus ride. FUN TIMES, FUN TIMES. Not only was this ride hellishly long, it was on awful dirt roads. We flew out of our seats so many times I had major bruises on my legs. It was so out of control. In fact, on our way back to Uganda I was sitting at the bus stop waiting, and a woman said to me, "Did you come to Tanzania on the bus last Wednesday?" "Yes," I responded. "Oh, I remembered you screaming when we went over the humps." So, yes, the "humps" in the road caused some drama and loss of sleep. Other than taking bathroom stops on the side of the highway, almost getting arrested by some creepy cop in Nairobi, and our the breakdown of our bus, the ride was semi-uneventful.

Anyways, we got to Arusha, and immediately booked a safari. On our safari we basically saw every animal really close. Because I'm in the process of moving, I can't find too many shots of the animals, but believe me, they were amazing. I felt like I was in the real world Lion King.

Nici, Jeffrey (tour guide), Me at Lake Manyara
Our first day at Lake Manyara we had some really amazing views of animals. I could have reached my arm out and touched a bunch of elephants. The zebras, giraffes, and hippos were super close too. I wish I had the shots, but what can you do?
We stayed at some sketchy hostel that night. Nici chose to use her net, I couldn't bring myself to use mine.
Day 2, we headed to the Ngorongoro Crater
The crater is pretty unbelievable. There's just about every animal down there. My favorites this day were the lions. We saw 7 lions, including 2 cubs, and they were so so so cute. We just sat and watched them for quite some time. Here's some wildebeests...
The Maasai tribe still lives in the crater...
On our way back to Arusha
The next day we decided to head to the base of Kilimanjaro... It was so beautiful. I can't imagine how amazing it would be to climb. I guess I better do it soon before the glacier is totally gone.
There was a really cool waterfall close by that we visited. While we were there we met a woman who had henna on her hands, and she told us if we came to her house the next day she would do our arms.

The next day we spent three hours getting our arms painted.
It was so much fun to watch the women at work. They did all of this free hand. It was so intricate. I spent the next month staring at my hands, and answering questions about my tats.

Throw baby the peace sign....

This had to be three of the best hours I had in Africa. The family was amazing to talk to and so generous. They gave us dinner and treats to take with us on our long bus ride. It was quite the cultural experience.

There you have it...

"Eye of the Tiger"

Sunday as I was watching High School Musical 2, along with the rest of the world, I started thinking about how much I wanted Roco to be there. Why does having a little dog on my lap make sitting around , watching crappy movies so much better? Sunday I thought just about any dog would do, but Monday The View had this little guy, Rascal, on. He's the winner of the World's Ugliest Dog Contest, not sure I would want to cuddle up with him.. sorry buddy, you're just a little too scary for me.

As I was watching Rascal on TV I wondered why his tongue was hanging out. His owner explained it's because he doesn't have any teeth to keep it in. This kind of creeped me out. How does a dog not have teeth?

Back to HSM 2... Here's the cast in front of East, just down the street from where I used to live.. HOLLA! For some reason I love it when things are filmed in Utah. It just makes them that much better to watch. There were some parts of this movie that were just too much to get over.. "Bet on It." We found ourselves busting up during this song, and it seems quite a few others had the same problem. Here's the scene set to "Eye of the Tiger"... It's pretty funny...

"We Close Our Eyes"

You know that Oingo Boingo song... "We close our eyes, and the world has turned around again, We close our eyes and dream, another year has come and gone..." it's always been one of my favorites. As far as 80's dance songs go it's one that can make me go a little crazy on the dance floor. Anyways, this weekend while I was in DC, cruisin' around in Michele's car, singing this song, the lyrics kind of hit me. CHEESY, I KNOW... it was just crazy seeing Michele in our old stomping ground without me. Getting on that stupid China Town Bus heading back to NY without her was really hard, and I kind of can't believe we don't live together anymore. NY, or anywhere else, just isn't the same without this girl. I seriously miss this her so freaking much. We've been following each other back and forth across the country for the last few years, and now I guess we have the China Town Bus to keep us together!

Here's some of the highlights of the weekend....

Grilled Ham and Cheese at Old Town Deli
We interned just down the street from this place, and we ate this pretty much everyday.

The beach on Saturday

This sexy lifeguard kept us pretty entertained

After the beach we hit up the crab shack
They even gave us our own pitcher of cherry coke.. HEAVEN

All eight of us getting ready to go crazy on the crab

Getting ready to dig in

The remains of the four crabs I demolished

A Maryland crab shack is quite the experience. I was a little grossed out at first, and I had to have Michele rip off my legs the first couple of times. Let's be honest, digging out the eyes, lungs, and fat of a crab isn't exactly the most appetising thing, but it was cracking me up. After our waitress taught us the proper dissecting techniques we got pretty good. I felt like I was in AP Biology allover again. Next time I think I'll stick to my good old king crab legs, but this was a pretty good time.

"The Moneymaker"

Something to look forward to: Rilo's new album comes out on Tuesday. I've been waiting for this one for quite sometime.... oh ya, and Karen and I are going to see them in September. Ah.. I just think about it and get a little giddy. I basically wish I could be Jenny.

Here's their new video. It's a little scandalous, but for some reason Jenny just makes me want to be a rock star.

"Sweet Dreams"

So... Sabra won! I can't complain... she's a sexy dancer and she had rock hard abs that I would do anything for. Here's one of my favorites of her... Sigh, I'm so sad this show is over. What do I have to look forward to now?

"Walk it Out"

So the other day I got a text from a trainer at a gym that said, "Nicole Richie is working out at my gym." Then I got a text with this picture... There she is in all her glory...
It kind of cracked me up... It was the real life paparazzi! Then Nat just forwarded me this from PopSugar. This was officially news breaking stuff... HOLLA!

"Dancing Queen"

Can I say how much I love So You Think You Can Dance? Last summer we lived and breathed this show. We'd record every episode and re-watch, and re-watch, and obsess over Benji, Allison, and all our latest favorites... It was a little out of control.

I have to admit, I had a couple second thoughts about going to Africa this summer because I knew I would miss this show... Luckily, Nat was nice enough to record most of it for me and last weekend we had a little marathon, and I got all caught up just in time for the finale.

The final four performed last night. Now the big question is, who's going to win. Here's my thoughts... Neil is cute, but he's not the best dancer, and I can't quite figure out if he's gay or not. I'd rather have him just be for sure one way or the other. Lacey is a slut bomb dancer, but every now and then I think she's almost cute, and I half like her (this is probably due to the fact that she's Benji's sister and that distorts what I really think about her). Sabra is pretty much amazing. She's an awesome dancer, and I think she's so cute. That brings us to Danny.... Danny seriously blows me away. I think he is hands down the best dancer the show has ever had. I think I'm a little biased towards the technical dancers because of all of those years at Bountiful School of Ballet. Anyways, he's just amazing.. and I want him to win, but I'm not sure he will.

Last year we knew Benji had it in the bag, but this year .. I'm just not so sure... I think anyone could win accept for Neil. I just don't think he's good enough. I guess only time will tell who will be the next dancing queen. Tonight is the big results show, and I just can't stop thinking about it.

Here's my boy Danny.

And here is Lacey hoping Hugh sees this and extends an offer for Play Boy..

"Homeward Bound"

I'm feeling a little homesick today... I kind of just want to go back...

This is a pretty classic performance from SNL that I've had on repeat today.

I'm missing this girl quite a bit...
And this one too...
And this little guy. I put Roco in this purse I knit, and he really liked. He was born to be a purse dog.
My last couple of days in Utah Pinkie and I got busy finishing off a few projects starting with this shirt. I was pretty happy with the way it turned out.
Roco was also loving this afghan I knit for Lindsay and Tyler.
I got it out to get it ready to give to them, and he wouldn't get off of it. He was cracking me up.

We also finished off some of the purses by adding a few little touches...

Annie bought a couple of the projects... This purse and headband...

Good times in Utah... I'm still waiting for my new machine to get here so I can get busy on some more projects!

"Bend and Snap"

I'm back on the east coast... Not sure how I feel about it, but I'm here anyways... So I guess I better make the most of it....

So far I've been to some girlie girl events.

Davis knows how much I love going to shows so he was super nice and surprised me with tickets to Legally Blonde my first night back. I think he knew if we didn't do something fun I might attempt suicide :) Anyways.. we went to the show, and I think Davis wanted to bang his head into the wall, but the show was cracking us up, and I can't get a couple of the songs out of my head, "OMG, OMG you guys..."

I headed up to Boston for the weekend to see my girl Nat.

We, with a bunch of boobs pictured here, went to the Justin Timberlake concert.

We couldn't resist the picture opportunity with the tour bus.

I've blogged about my love of Justin before. Last fall we watched his performance at the Victoria Secret Fashion Show over and over and over again. There's just something about JT that screams sex. That man can move, sing, and command an audience.. I think he was just born to perform.

We were part of the screaming girls. The amount of screaming cracked me up. It reminded me of the Backstreet Boys concert we went to in high school. There's nothing like girls going crazy over pop stars. I felt like I was 12 again.

Saturday we had the perfect day at the beach.

It was pretty much the ideal weekend. Nat and I always have so much fun screaming out music, driving around, chatting, eating, and watching the tube... I forgot to mention we also had a So You Think You Can Dance marathon... Thanks Nat, I only wish I could have stayed longer.
