"Still, Still, Still"

This morning we went to Music and the Spoken Word at the Conference Center. I always like to go to it the Sunday before Christmas. It's just long enough to get some good music in, but not too long that I get bored. One of the songs the choir sang was "Still, Still, Still" I kind of love that song.

And last night was our girl Christmas party... Husbands and boyfriends were not allowed. It's just more fun that way.

And The Fun Begins...

After a LONG day of traveling yesterday, I'm finally home.  Today we had a baby shower for my sister-in-law, Christina...
Olivia was pretty excited to get to go to the "Girl's Party."
a group shot...
The Harrison Girls...
I couldn't resist this one of Paul and Ellie...
Gosh, I love being home! I don't want the next week to end.

"Deck the Halls"

The other day we had a Christmas party for all of our kids at work. It was so much fun to see the kids with Santa and dancing around, unfortunately I can't post any pics of them, but here are some of girls from the office...

Are You Kidding Me...

"Christmas Time"

On Sunday Craig and Mary had a bunch of people over for a Christmas dinner....
The food was pretty amazing. I almost felt like I was back home for Sunday dinner.
And, of course, Davis got a little crazy with Parker on the bed...

Davis, and I went with some friends to see Handel's Messiah at Carnegie Hall. Let me tell you, it was quite the experience.
I have to admit, it was pretty cool to go to Carnegie, since I hadn't been inside since I've lived in New York, but I'm not really the biggest classical fan. So, I started getting a little bored, and I started talking to Davis. I got in trouble and was told if I didn't stop talking I would have to move. Then, Ron got a little bored, and whipped out his phone and started texting. He got in trouble too. Since Davis and I both came from work, hadn't eaten, and we kept getting in trouble, because let's face it we were bored, we opted to leave early, after "Hallelujah," and hit up the Burger Joint for some burgers and shakes. So, was I glad I went tonight? Yes. But should most classical events be half as long as they are? Yes, and I'm 100% sure leaving early was the right decision. amen.

"I Am Legend"

Apparently I've been seeing a lot of movies lately.... Last night we saw this one...
And I'm not sure my dreams will ever be the same.... SO FREAKING SCARY...

Just a warning.. I felt sick to my stomach at the end because it was so intense.

"Talk, Talk"

This email chain is an example of how I pass the time at work...

Kristan: How do you feel about this?

Actor Robert Pattinson joins cast of Twilight for Summit Entertainment
Bryndee: Hmmmm I think he is cute but definitely not Edward material. I am somewhat disappointed with their pick

Karen: I DO NOT FEEL GOOD ABOUT THIS. I looked at some of the shots on imdb and noooot so impressed. ick. Whatever happened to Henry Cavill...

Bryndee: Oh yes Henry...he was mighty FINE!!!

Me: ok.. this..
I DO NOT FEEL GOOD ABOUT THIS. I looked at some of the shots on imdb and noooot so impressed. ick. Whatever happened to Henry Cavill... cracked me up. i really laughed right out loud...

Karen: What are you saying Mel? :) know i know. my pathetic points are skyrocketing. But seriously, doesn't he kind of sick you out? what happened to dreamy glittery chiseled jaw sexy edward?

Bryndee: I hope Jacob doesn't disappoint me like Edward did.

Me: Yes, let's home Jacob delivers. You know we'll only be seeing this one for the sexy men. And Edward is my dream boat.. What have they done? Jacob better make up for it.

So, last night we went to Juno, and let me tell you, it was AMAZING. I'd seen the trailer and wanted to see it, and then Becca blogged about it, and I decided I HAD to see it. Honestly, YOU HAVE TO SEE IT, it's funny, cute, sad, touching.. It's really everything you could want. I just can't even say how much I enjoyed this little show. So, flock to the theatre. I promise, you won't regret it.

"Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree"

Michele was in town for the weekend to take in a little NYC-Out-Of-Control-Christmasness.
We had a pretty great time per the usual. It reminded me of last year ... Oh boy, oh boy, don't get me started on how much I miss this girl. I wish she could just get her act together and freaking move back here already, and Karen.. don't move... I'm going to die if you do.

"All I Want for Christmas"

Last night we had our annual Christmas party. For some reason these nights get a little out of control. And I always wonder if everyone is secretly drunk. It was definitely a good time. I feel like there's a good chance most of my girls are going to be leaving the city in the next few months, and I'm not going to lie, just the thought depresses me.
Anyways.. we had some pretty funny gifts last night. I got the coveted "What Would Riggins Do?" shirt.
And in case you're stupid and don't know who Riggins is.... Here he is in all of his sexy teenage girl crush goodness... Wow, doesn't he kind of blow you away?

So, what did you all think?

about this....

"Eat, Pray, Love"

For book club this month we had a hard time deciding what aspect of the book we wanted to participate in while discussing...eating? praying? or loving? Oh wait, we didn't have that hard of a time... We're all Mormons, so I'm pretty sure we get enough praying in... and, again, we're all Mormons so we're not really getting that much loving in...We settled for eating at Serafina. The other two are definitely overrated, and, besides, Italy was by far the best part of the book.

"Wonderful Christmastime"

Davis has a secret gift for spotting celebs. We were out and about on Saturday and we maybe ran into a pretty big one.
Can anyone spot the celeb in this picture? (And just in case you were wondering my pores and dandruff don't count..)

How about this one? We had to be careful when taking the pics because the celeb kinda knew Davis was stalking him.

Anyways, I LOVE Davis' secret talent because, let's face it, I'm a sucker for celebs, and I'm especially a sucker for A-listers like Harry....

"Call it Off"

Karen and I went to see Tegan and Sara the other night, and I kind of loved it.
Why do lesbians seem to make such great music? Maybe if I was one I could make great music too?? Just a thought... What do you think?

"Let it Snow"

Yesterday I got this picture from my mom. I was so jealous that there was snow in Utah. Davis and I were out and about the whole day on the scootsies and we kept talking about how much fun it would be if it snowed in NY.

I woke up today and guess what was outside... That's what I'm talkin'bout. Now it finally feels like the holidays around here.

The strike ended, and all of my dreams came true tonight.

"Beds are Burning" again

EnviroCare. Energy Solutions. UGH. These are words and companies that seriously make me sick. I've talked about it here, here, and here.

It's bad enough the company has been allowed to make millions and billions of dollars dumping nuclear waste in Utah, but now I have to hear about it every time I watch a Jazz game, or listen to the radio in Utah, "this concert will be at THE ENERGY SOLUTIONS ARENA..." bla bla bla. Now Utah is officially the poster child for nuclear waste.

Every time I see one of Energy Solutions' cheesy commercials on TV, you know the ones that have the CEO standing in front of an arch or a mountain talking about Energy Solutions providing a better future for Utah... UGH.. I can't even explain how sick and angry those commercials make me.

Anyways, it looks like they're up to it again. This time Energy Solutions wants to dump waste from Italy in Utah. Why not, right? I mean they're already dumping waste from the rest of the country in Utah, why not make us the world's dumping ground. It makes sense to me.

I wish we could get some people in Utah that actually cared about the state instead of just $$$. But I guess that's asking for too much coming from a state full of right-wing-nut-jobs.

"Flowers in December"

I'm not a very artistic person. Those genes definitely went to Matthew and Spencer, and by the time I was born there weren't any left for me. And I'm definitely not a musically talented person. Those genes definitely went to .... hmmm.... not sure what happened to those genes, but I definitely didn't get those either. I can appreciate art and music, but when it comes to producing my own... it's just not happening for me.

I've always wanted to play the guitar. So in high school I took some guitar classes. It was really fun, but it was pretty hard for me. Where does that leave me? Isn't guitar supposed to be one of the easy instruments to play? I guess it leaves me going to concerts where I can appreciate good musicians. Anyways, I made it to intermediate guitar at good old VHS. As our final project for that class, we had to write a song of our own... and, here's the kicker.. WE HAD TO PERFORM IT IN FRONT OF THE CLASS. For someone who is musically challenged and COMPLETELY tone deaf this was quite the assignment. I stressed over this assignment more than any other in my entire life (yes, that includes college and grad school). The night before it was due, I was practicing the song I had put together for my fam. They couldn't help but laugh. It became immediately clear that I couldn't get up in front of my class and try to sing seriously because, let's face it, I'm that bad. So, my brother and I put together a little punk diddy that required me to scream instead of sing. The lyrics went something like this..
"I wrote this song for Mr. Murphy's class
If he doesn't like it can kiss my
Ask my why I can't sing
It must be a genetic thing.

I want to graduate from this high school
I want to graduate, college will be so cool."

Classy, eh? I can't remember the second verse, but I'm sure you get the point. I was so scared to perform my stupid song. I really thought I was going to throw up when I walked into that class. When it was finally my turn to sing my song, I walked up front of the class and started shaking. I can remember one of my friends asking me if I was okay. That memory really cracks me up. I can't believe that I actually sang in front of a group of people. It turns out my song was kind of a hit, and Mr. Murphy told all of his other classes how impressed he was with my song! (that's what I'm talkin'bout).

Tonight was kind of the same experience. I don't really like to show people things I make, or be the center of attention, but tonight I bucked up and did it. Karen and I have been taking a photography class and tonight was the exhibit. I was tempted not to participate in it because I'd just rather not have people look at my stuff, but I actually had fun. It was cool to get some positive feedback about my pics.

I guess sometimes when we push ourselves to uncomfortable limits, it can be surprisingly enjoyable and somewhat fulfilling, eh? That being said, I don't think you'll ever catch me singing my own song in front of a group of people again.

Here are some professional pictures of our exhibit :)

Look at all of the people who actually came. Pretty big time, eh?

He who must not be blogged about also showed up...

Here we are in front of Karen's really cool pics...

Famous Inbal (our teacher) and another girl from our class...

One more thing, I had my music on random, and this song came up. I think I've maybe mentioned this song before, oh well, here I am talking about it again. I really love Mazzy Star, and I really love this song. So check it out. Who knows maybe you'll love it too.

"Don't Talk"

Living in New York, I feel like I'm around random people all the time. I really am never alone. Sometimes this has it's advantages, since I love to stalk weirdos and stare at them for unbelievably long amounts of time. But when I just want to be left alone, it sucks, and I've been tempted so many times lately to say, "Please, just leave me the hell alone. I don't want to talk to you." Does this mean I'm really turning into a mean New Yorker? I hope not, but I'm afraid it does, because usually, it's really how I feel.

The other day I was out taking pictures (which for some reason, I feel like when I have my camera, people feel more comfortable talking to me. am i crazy for thinking this?) and this lady tapped me from behind. My immediate reaction was to get annoyed and say, "Please, just leave me the hell alone. I don't want to talk to you." But when I turned around and saw this...

those feeling immediately went away, and I was super happy she tapped me. She said if I wanted to take pictures of something cute, I should take some of her dogs. I guess the dogs will only walk one way across central park, and when she turns around to go back the other way, they put on the brakes, and make her carry them in her shopping bags. The whole thing kind of cracked me up. She asked me to take a bunch of pics of her and the dogs, then she gave me her email address, and asked me to email them to her. Kind of random, right? Anways, I hope she likes them. If only more people with small dogs stopped and talked to me.. my days would be so much better.

A couple of weeks ago Davis and I went to see Pygmalion starring none other than my girl, Ms. Claire Danes. I've kind of been obsessed with her since I was 11 and seeing her was no letdown. The show was really great.

Sometimes I get a little nervous about seeing plays. They can be a pretty boring, but not this one. We seriously couldn't believe how fast it went by. In case you weren't aware, a play going by seemingly fast = really great, because time flies when you're having fun, right? Anyways, all of the leads were amazing, and it was just a really good time.

Luckily, Pygmalion wasn't affected by the strike, let's just keep our fingers crossed that the strike will end by Friday so I can keep my tickets to Little Mermaid.

Claire Danes on Broadway? Little Mermaid on Broadway? Seriously all of my little girls dreams are coming true. Next I just need to go to a BSB concert. Oh wait, done and done.

"The Holy War"

I grew up in a family of U fans. I've always been a U fan. Ever year, for my entire life, the day of the Holy War has been a big deal. As the years have gone by, my family has become even more obsessed with U athletics, and Holy War Saturday has become an even bigger deal. Last Saturday was no exception.

As a side note, I did graduate from BYU, and I tried to be a fan. I once wore blue to a rivalry game, and I regretted it the whole time. The entire game I was torn between cheering for the color I was wearing and cheering for my heart's desire. I've never been able to live that game down. Hopefully one day my fellow U fans will forgive me.

Now that that's out of the way, we can continue with last Saturday's events...
The planning began weeks ago. I was chatting with Peter a couple of weeks ago and he said, "We're planning on leaving for the game at 9, tailgating, and harassing zoobs, so get ready." Does anything sound better than arriving to a game 3 hours before kickoff?

As the day got closer, our departure time got earlier. On Saturday, Pinkie woke up early, went to the store to get the necessary supplies for a successful tailgating party. Dave and Nici picked me up at 8:10, and the crew headed down to Happy Valley in nothing but... a minivan.

On the way down we had a casualty. Peter and Michael were trying to "Harass some zoobs" out the window as we were driving along I-15. Michael forgot the U flag was hooked to the window, unrolled it, and before we knew it, the flag was gone. Oh well, I'm sure Peter got some choice words out to the other car, full of BYU fans, despite the loss of the flag.

Oh ya, I forgot to mention that the DVD of the Fiesta Bowl was playing in the van during our ride.

Next we arrived at good old PHS and had a partay with the rest of the crazy Utah fans. The energy behind a big game is always so so so much fun. I really do love going. There's just something about being able to run around the streets with your fellow fans yelling and screaming, while, at the same time, saying mean things to people wearing the wrong color! It gets me so excited. The Holy War games are especially intense. I swear the blues and reds won't even look at each other. It's seriously like you're heading into battle while you walk to the stadium.

The game started and the first three quarters were somewhat uneventful. However, the last quarter got super intense. It was so intense, that my legs started shaking, and I thought I was going to throw up. Seriously, the game came down to the last 30 seconds, and after some really intense plays and some bad calls, it unfortunately, ended with the stupid star wars cheer the zoobs love to do. Why do they do that anyways? I never really understood that one.

So BYU won. I can handle it. There's always next year, and I'm sure that game will be super intense too. This is the Holy War we're talking about, right? But there are some things that I just can't handle about the Holy War. I can't handle that some BYU people think God actually cares about this game. The prayer before the game gets to me. And Quotes from Max Hall like, "The lord stepped in and made things happen," make me actually vomit in my mouth. I can't handle Coach Mendenhall talking in the post-game press conference as if he were bearing his testimony. The whole churchiness behind a freaking football game really bothers me.

I just want to clear something up for Mr. Hall, Mr. Mendenhall and anybody else who thinks God cares about football... He doesn't care. It's a football game. So please quit saying crap like that. I'm a good Mormon girl, and I can't really take anymore.

Now, I just have my sunburned cheeks from Saturday, and next year's war to look forward to.

Hey upper east sidder, Gossip Girl here, and I have the biggest news ever!

Spotted on the corner of 20th and Lex -- Lonely Boy following behind S, herself. I guess even the elite upper east siders like S, can't help themselves but succumb to the allure of a sample sale. Some might call this a fustercluck. But on the Upper East Side, we call it Saturday morning.

Here's Loney Boy checking out with his new loot.

What was it we say about appearances? Yes, they can be deceiving. But most of the time, what you see is what you get. Could it be Lonely Boy and S are dating in real life?

Call us old school. But sometimes the fairly tale requires the knight to get off his ass and saddle up his steed and do a little shopping with his girl.

But who am I ? That's one secret I'll never tell ... I think Lonely Boy might have an idea, since he caught me following him around the sale. Oh well, you know you love me. XOXO, Gossip Girl

But then I get pictures like these from my brothers, and I just want to go home....

"Young Folks"

So... We sent the boys to Colorado for the World Series... And the girls headed to NYC...

Here's what we did with ourselves...

Tia and her cute friend Mares came...
They were the go-go dancers on Regis and Kelly... Pretty big time..
Pinkie joined us the next day.. And we saw Walmartopia...

Saturday we hit up some stores... Don't worry, two hours trying on jeans flew right by...
Then we headed to Grease on Broadway...

We splurged on a cab a time or two...

Sunday we hit up the Manhattan 8th Ward...
It gave everyone a chance to relive their single's ward glory days...

After church we headed across the Brooklyn Bridge...

Oh ya, Davis joined us, as our polygamist husband....

Here's a random one...

Suz, we wish you had been here to complete the Harrison Girl's Weekend....
